The never-ending spectrum of personalities and interactions is my on-going inspiration.
I grew up in small-town Oklahoma, surrounded by a number of intriguing characters. My creativity was encouraged, and writing became the focus of my education.
After graduating from Oklahoma State University with a journalism degree, I worked as a reporter/photographer at a newspaper in Sapulpa, OK. I sat next to a crackling, antiquated speaker that was hooked up to a police scanner; and covered everything from the largest tomato of the summer, to tragic accidents, to monstrous crimes.
My naivety was shattered by contemplating the actions and motives of violent criminals. That year-long glimpse into the dark side led me to pursue a career in advertising and marketing where my writing took on a much lighter, and more technical nature.
For most of my career, I focused on advertising, catalog copy, web content and even instructional manuals. I continued writing poetry, country music lyrics and fiction, drawing from the constant inspiration provided by the human condition.
In 1997, I left the corporate world to work with my husband, artist/fabricator, Tony Collins, in his custom metal business. We make custom lighting, restaurant and store fixtures, furniture, sculptures and architectural elements, in Dallas, Texas. I learned to weld and use tools that I didn’t even know existed. I really enjoy the process of taking raw materials and transforming them into something spectacular. I’ve also worked in ceramics, as a hobby, for over 20 years, and find throwing and painting pots is a great escape!
I continue to write and develop new projects. I love traveling and experiencing new cultures and landscapes. My interests and my work are eclectic, and my curiosity and imagination take me on endless journeys, waiting to be written.
